cicifoo: recomposed, 2004it seems these are the days. to start some on and off writings. the other day a friend asked me what is soft modernism (2004), and let me explain it shortly here…so we dont just buzz around and rather kick off right now. soft modernism should be applied to visual art works that are building on its visuality. it is not solely content that is there to be observed..but it is also letting ourselves go with the visual impression - form. modernism is implicating techne, but not techne in new technologies, but techne as in using and especially some sort of enjoying by using and exploring tools for visual creation. it can be a pencil, a brush, or a computer. and than the term soft speaks about content. this does not mean a content can’t be a mindblow, it just means that it can’t transfer to functionaly and it’s subversive purpose can’t go beyond warning or commentary. something that is based on visual can’t be based on message or function, because as said it is based on visual expression and message has somehow a second stand. soft modernism thus doesn’t deal with the ideology or with sanctification of formal expression. the modernism that has passed was really strong in enhancing formalistic production and form itself, applying these abstract terms even to ideologies of autonomy and selfsufficiency. soft modernism on the other hand it is more leger, it is aware of postmodern failure of values and it is much more inventive rather that contemplative. when you spot some shape, colour or any other new visual impact, and is somewhere online, rarely even offline, it is soft modernism we are speaking about. a lot of it in slovenia was done by cicifoo (recomposed, 2004) and sonda  for example.

to finish this uptoartdate blog let me say hello i miss you reading this! and as my friend would add fuck art lets kill.
